Poseidon loved the sea. He grew up in a small town surrounded by mountains so when his family moved to the coast he had a new found joy for the waves.

He would swim far out and dive deep, peering through goggles that were much too tight for his face. He was enthused by the miraculous creatures that glided along the ocean floor.

One day, Poseidon found himself swimming farther than the crashing waves. He got caught in a current. It swept him out and his toes could no longer find the sandy floor. He was told once to swim parallel to the beach, it’s the only way to make it back to shore. So Poseidon swam, and swam until his arms grew tired. The beach became distant along the horizon. He found himself barely floating on the surface. He felt something brush against his leg and began to panic. The gray shadow that lurked below him made circles around his splashing.

The splashing soon came to a halt and Poseidon slipped below the surface. The creature that swam beneath him had made a decision. Poseidon loved the sea, so much so, it chose him to become apart of its depths.
